The Origin of PES Hot Melt Adhesive Film

Apr 19, 2024

Polyester type PES hot melt adhesive film belongs to thermoplastic polyester, namely linear saturated polyester. It is commonly obtained through ester exchange reaction, esterification reaction, and condensation reaction of polyacids and polyols. However, different ratios of diols and dicarboxylic acids generate polymer with different ester and ether structures.
The selection of raw material monomers for synthesizing polyester directly affects the performance of polyester PES hot melt adhesive film. Low molecular weight diols are aliphatic diols containing 2-8 carbon atoms. Commonly used dicarboxylic acids and alcohols include terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, sebacic acid, hexahydroisophthalic acid, 1,4-butanediol, ethylene glycol, 1,6-hexanediol, tetramethylene glycol, etc. PES hot melt adhesive film has the advantages of high performance and low cost.
The appearance of PES hot melt adhesive film was still in the 1960s.
However, the industrial use of PES hot melt adhesive films in China began in the 1970s. The development process of PES hot melt adhesive films was relatively slow, so they could not meet the market demand. Previously, PES hot melt adhesive films were only used to make clothing linings, etc. Now, with the mass production of polyester fibers and other products, significant modifications have been made to PES hot melt adhesive films. Compared with the original polyester, this co polyester reduces the melting point, increases flexibility, and has good adhesion. PES hot melt adhesive film is a flexible material adhesive with good comprehensive performance.
