How to use Tpu adhesive films for clothing labels
Feb 04, 2025
The following is a more detailed use of hot melt adhesive film for clothing labels:
1. Preparation
Material preparation: First, make sure you have the right hot melt adhesive film for clothing labels. Choose the right adhesive film based on the material of the clothing fabric (such as pure cotton, chemical fiber, leather, etc.) and the type of label (paper, fabric, etc.). Prepare the clothing to be labeled and the label itself, making sure the surface of the clothing is clean and flat, without dust, oil or wrinkles. The label should also be cut neatly and of the right size.
Tool preparation: The heat press is a relatively professional tool. If you use a heat press, you must set the temperature, pressure and time parameters in advance according to the instructions of the hot melt adhesive film.
An iron can also be used as an alternative. If you use an iron, choose a steam iron with adjustable temperature and make sure the bottom of the iron is clean.
2. Hot pressing bonding method
Film placement: Cut the hot melt adhesive film into a shape slightly larger than the label, then place the adhesive side of the film toward the label and apply it evenly to the back of the label. You can gently smooth it with your hands to ensure that the film fits the label completely without bubbles or wrinkles.
Heat pressing operation: If using a heat press, place the label with the film on the designated position of the garment, and then start the heat press. During the heat pressing process, keep the pressure even so that the film can fully melt and bond with the garment fabric.
If you use an iron, adjust the temperature to a suitable setting (usually around the cotton and linen setting), then gently apply pressure to the label with the iron, moving the iron back and forth on the label at a uniform speed and force to melt the film. This process generally takes about 10-15 seconds, and care should be taken to avoid local overheating that may damage the fabric.
Cooling and shaping: After the heat pressing is completed, let the label cool naturally on the clothing. During the cooling process, the label and the clothing should not be pulled by external force, so that the film can be better solidified and the viscosity can be enhanced. Generally, the cooling time is about 30 seconds.
3. Notes
When using a heat press or iron, be careful to avoid burns.
For some special fabrics, such as waterproof and breathable fabrics or fabrics with coatings, it is best to test on a small piece of fabric before using the hot melt adhesive film to ensure that there will be no adverse effect on the fabric performance.
When storing hot melt adhesive film, keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent the film from being deformed by moisture or heat, which will affect its performance.
